What Systemic Thinking Actually Does to Your Business, Family, and Legacy
A US study found that engineers and doctors become entrepreneurs at rates as high as 97% from certain universities, while MBA graduates produced entrepreneurs in single digits. The differentiator was systemic thinking. Antano Solar John, Personal Evolution Scientist, explains how this same capability determines what leaders win and what they silently lose at home.

The things to take from this
001The Entrepreneurship Data
Research from US universities showed that 97% of engineers from certain schools became entrepreneurs, while MBA programs produced entrepreneurs in single digits, because engineering trains systemic thinking and MBA programs do not.
002The Family Feedback Loop
When systemic thinking improves, one small behavior change inside a family begins shifting the entire equation around it, and that same intelligence then flows directly into business results.
003The Two Types of Sacrifice
Leaders who win in business while losing at home belong to the second category of sacrifice, where they do not even know they are giving something up, and systemic thinking is the capability that makes both visible at once.
004Ecosystem Over Innovation
Entrepreneurship requires more than the innovation itself; it requires reading the ecosystem, understanding the psychology of buyers, and tracking how the product moves through social networks, all of which are outputs of systemic thinking.
Part 01
What Systems and Systems Thinking Actually Produce in the Real World
A study conducted in the United States set out to measure how many MBA graduates became entrepreneurs. The number came back in single digits. Researchers then looked at certain engineering and medical universities and found that 97% of graduates from those programs went on to build businesses.
The difference was not ambition. It was not network. It was the type of thinking that each discipline trained.
Engineers and doctors spend years learning to read systems. They learn how one variable shifts and what that does to everything connected to it. That is the systems thinking definition that produces real-world outcomes: the ability to hold an entire structure in view while tracking the effect of one small change.
MBA programs, as structured in that era, trained analysis on isolated units, not on interdependencies.
Antano Solar John, working as a Personal Evolution Scientist with leaders across 50 industries and 13 countries, has documented this same pattern repeatedly. Leaders who can read systems see what others miss. They do not just see the innovation they are bringing to a market.
They see the ecosystem in which that innovation lands, the psychology of the people receiving it, and the word-of-mouth mechanics that either accelerate or kill adoption. Thinking in systems at that level is not a soft skill. It produces measurable business results that pure analytical thinking does not reach.
Part 02
Systemic Thinking and the Silent Losses Leaders Do Not See
Antano draws a distinction that stops leaders cold when they first hear it. He describes two types of sacrifice. In the first type, a person knows they are sacrificing and they choose it with full awareness.
In the second type, a person does not know they are sacrificing at all. They believe they are doing the right thing. They believe they are winning. But at a level they cannot see, they have given up something significant.
Leaders operating without systemic thinking live inside the second category. They optimize for business metrics and measure themselves against those metrics daily. What does not show up on any dashboard is what is happening at home.
The relationship with a spouse that has quietly eroded. The children who have learned to not bring their real questions to a parent who is always elsewhere mentally. The health that degrades slowly enough to stay below the threshold of alarm until it is not.
Systemic thinking, as Antano defines it, is the capability that makes both pictures visible simultaneously. A leader with this capability does not have to choose between winning at work and being present at home. They see the full system.
They notice when a small shift in how they show up at dinner changes something in how their child approaches school the following week. And they notice when a pattern at home is the same pattern costing them three hours of misalignment in every leadership meeting.
The cost of missing this is not a dramatic failure. It accumulates in invisible debits that only become visible years later.
The pattern, as a circuit. One trigger, and it runs the full loop on its own. A pattern runs from one source. That is why it returns no matter how much effort goes in at the surface.
Part 03
When Systemic Thinking Flows Across Business, Family, and Legacy Together
The distinction
The promise built into the B!G programme at Antano and Harini includes family evolution as a deliverable. This is not a philosophical addition. It is a structural consequence of how systemic thinking actually works.
When a leader builds genuine systemic thinking capability, the first place it shows up is in the family. A small change in how they listen produces a measurable shift in how family members around them behave. Seeing that feedback loop happen in real time trains the same pattern recognition that then flows into business decisions.
Legacy is the output of this over time. Leaders who think in systems build companies that do not depend on their daily presence to function. They build families where each person develops their own trajectory.
They build health practices that compound rather than deplete. None of these outcomes happen by optimizing each domain separately. They happen because the same systemic intelligence moves across all three simultaneously.
The team dependency audit exists for leaders who want a concrete starting point. Dependency inside a team is a systemic problem. A team that cannot move without a specific person in the room has a structural flaw, not a people problem.
Identifying those dependencies is the first diagnostic step toward building the kind of systemic awareness that produces results in business and spills over into every other domain. If you lead a team and want to see where the real structural gaps are, the audit maps it in minutes.

Surface work bounces. Advice, effort and willpower operate at the level of conscious thought, so they bounce off. The pattern runs one level below. Change it there, and the old loop has nothing left to run on.A × T = C™. Antano and Harini's formula: Adjustment times Time equals Consequences. Effort on the wrong adjustment barely moves the needle in decades. The right adjustment, made once at the source, compounds for years.

Systemic ThinkingThe capability to hold an entire system in view and track how one small change in any element shifts the behavior of everything connected to it. Antano Solar John identifies it as the foundational capability separating leaders who win across business, family, and health from those who optimize one at the cost of the others.
Systems Thinking Definition (Applied)In an applied leadership context, systems thinking means reading the ecosystem around an innovation, not just the innovation itself, and seeing the psychology and social mechanics that determine whether an idea spreads or stalls.
The Second Type of SacrificeA category of loss that Antano Solar John identifies in leaders who believe they are winning but are giving up significant value in domains they are not measuring. This invisible sacrifice is what systemic thinking makes visible.
Ecosystem IntelligenceThe understanding of the social, psychological, and structural environment into which a product, decision, or behavior is released. Leaders with ecosystem intelligence predict second and third-order effects that others only see in hindsight.
Questions people ask
What is systemic thinking and why does it matter for business leaders?
Systemic thinking is the capability to see a full system and track how one change in any part ripples through the whole. It matters for business leaders because entrepreneurship and leadership both require reading ecosystems, not just isolated variables. A US study found that engineers and doctors from certain universities became entrepreneurs at rates as high as 97%, while MBA graduates produced entrepreneurs in single digits. The researchers attributed this to systemic thinking training. Leaders who develop this capability build companies, teams, and products that adapt and compound over time.
How does systemic thinking affect family outcomes?
When systemic thinking improves in a leader, they begin to notice how one small shift in their behavior at home changes the entire dynamic around them. A change in how they listen at dinner shifts how a child approaches problems at school. A shift in how they handle conflict changes the emotional baseline of the household. Antano Solar John documents this as a consistent pattern across the leaders he works with. The family becomes the first visible feedback loop for systemic thinking, and that same intelligence then flows into business.
What is the difference between the two types of sacrifice Antano describes?
The first type of sacrifice is conscious. A person sees what they are giving up and chooses it. The second type is invisible. A person believes they are doing the right thing but has given up something significant without registering it. Antano Solar John identifies this second type as the default state for leaders who optimize for business metrics without systemic thinking. They win on the metrics they measure and lose in the domains they do not. Systemic thinking is the capability that makes the full picture visible and gives leaders the choice back.
How does systems thinking connect to entrepreneurship?
Systems thinking connects to entrepreneurship because building a business requires more than an idea. It requires understanding the ecosystem in which the idea will live, the psychology of the people who will buy and share it, and the structural conditions that will either support or reject the innovation. Thinking in systems trains exactly this. Leaders with systemic capability read markets the way an engineer reads a circuit and adjust for second-order effects before they become costly surprises.
Can systemic thinking be developed or is it innate?
Systemic thinking is a capability that develops with the right training environment and feedback loops. Antano Solar John built the B!G programme with systemic thinking as a core developmental outcome. The reason engineers and doctors outperform MBA graduates in entrepreneurship is not genetic. It is that their education trained them to see systems across years of applied practice. The same development is available to any leader who works on it deliberately with the right structure.

The whole idea of big education is building systemic thinking. In families, changing one small element can change so many things around it. So that's called systemic thinking. Systemic thinking is the ability to see the full family and notice each small behavior. How does it change the entire equation? You have systemic thinking in business, you could have systemic thinking in your leadership. And the whole idea of big education is building systemic thinking. They did this study once in the US and they found out how many people who actually study MBA become entrepreneurs. And they found that the proportion was very less, it was in single digits in that year. And on the contrast they found out that from certain universities, 97% of engineers and very large degree of doctors become entrepreneurs. Why? Because entrepreneurship requires systemic thinking. It requires the understanding of not just the innovation that you're bringing to the world, it requires the understanding of the ecosystem in which you're releasing it. The psychology of the people who are buying it and telling it to their friends. You know, people who are trained on systemic thinking are more naturally going to be able to understand exactly what is going on. The reason we can promise family evolution in big, the part of the big promise is when people come from big, we say develop superior capabilities of world leaders and create big impact, starting with your family first. And the reason we promise family evolution first is because when systemic thinking improves, you start noticing that very small things that you begin to change and do is having that kind of an impact on everybody around you. And then that happens, you'll notice that the same systemic intelligence flows into your business. And most people can create big impact, but they compromise or sacrifice so many things in their life because, you know, there are two types of sacrifices. The one sacrifice is where you know that you're sacrificing something. The other sacrifice is a trap. You don't know that over a period of time these, these, these things will be missing in a person's life. And so systemic thinking allows you to know and avoid the trap that you have to compromise on some area of your life to create big impact. Impact and longevity are connected because I feel the more you continue to create impact in the world, the more you're going to feel that you are useful. And likewise, you know, some people compromise on their health, some people compromise on their relationship, some people compromise on parenting, but the worst form is when the person doesn't know that they are compromising. It's a trap, you know, they know it five years later, they know it 10 years later. So systemic thinking is a very important superior capability. Not only do you understand systems of families and human behavior and ecosystem, but you understand a set of these capabilities will move a person's life from this trajectory into that trajectory. Now that's something that is a core focus. We do our best to develop systemic thinking for every individual. That is really priceless. Thank you.
